Dr. Shay Fish

Dr. Shay Fish received his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Science from Texas A&M University in 1985. He received his Doctorate of Podiatric Medicine (DPM) in 1990 from William M. Scholl's College of Podiatric Medicine and Surgery at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in Chicago, IL. Dr. Fish served as class president for two years and was honored with various Professional Conduct and Service Awards.

He returned to Texas for residence training which included 2 years of Podiatric Medicine & Surgery at the University of Texas Health Science Center – San Antonio. He was then selected for a third year at UTHSC-SA as the first Diabetic Foot Fellowship recipient. Subsequently, he was appointed to teaching faculty as Professor which exposed him to the unique experience of teaching residents and providing podiatric care and surgery at University Hospital System as well as the Billings Area Indian Health Services in Billings, Montana. Dr. Fish wrote the grant that resulted in the partnership with and service to the Native American Reservations in Montana. From 1994 – 1997, he was named Director, University Health Systems Podiatry Clinics, UTHSC-SA.

Dr. Fish returned to Illinois ( The Land of Lincoln) in 1997 to start a private practice with a former classmate from Chicago. He maintained private practice in Springfield, IL from 1997 until 2002. His time in Illinois included service on several committees at both Memorial Medical Center and St. John's Hospital. There he aided in the implementation of credentialing and privileging along with standardizing surgery protocols.

His Texas roots called him home in 2002, where he now has his own private practice with locations in San Antonio and Kerrville. His professional interests include diabetic foot care and limb salvage, wound care, adult and pediatric reconstructive surgery of the foot, biomechanics, sports medicine and custom molded orthotics. Dr. Fish has lectured in academic association settings, for doctors and allied health groups as well for local organizations such as the American Diabetes Association.

Dr. Fish, a 6 th Generation Texan, was born in Kingsville, Texas, spent his formative years in Beeville, Texas and currently resides in San Antonio. He has been involved with the Big Brother/Big Sister organization in both Texas and Illinois and encourages both young and old to keep learning and aspiring to new heights. He enjoys reading, running, skiing, and the rich history of Texas and our nation.

Dr. Fish is a certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He is a member of both the American Podiatric Medical Association and the Texas Podiatric Medical Association.

Hospital affiliations include Methodist Health Care System, Baptist Health Care System, Christus Santa Rosa and Peterson Regional Medical Center.
